Horse gram has dietary fiber content in it which is a main nutrition that a diabetic patient has to consume. As all the pulses increase in its Vitamin B nutrition when it is sprouted, horse gram also gives the same nutrition value when you use sprouted horse gram in your dishes. Horse gram takes lower time to sprout. Horse gram sabji can be made with a sprouted horse gram that is boiled and mashed before using.
Ingredients Required for preparing Horse Gram Sabji
Horse Gram (Boiled and mashed) – 1 Cup
Tomato (Grinded) – 1
Big Onion (Grinded) – 1
Ginger, Garlic Paste – 1 Tea spoon
Chili Powder – 1 Tea spoon
Coriander Powder – 1 ½ Tea spoon
Turmeric Powder – ¼ Tea spoon
Cloves, cardamom – 3 each
Masala stick (3 inches stick) – 1
Fennel Seeds – 1 Tea Spoon
Oil – 3 Table spoons
Preparation procedure for Horse Gram Sabji
Take oil in a pan and heat it for a while. After the oil is hot enough put Masala Stick, cloves and fennel seeds to it.
After that, add the grinded onion and tomato to it and sauté for some while.
Now add turmeric powder and Ginger, garlic paste.
Then add chili powder and coriander powder and salt to it. Mix it well and let it to cook for a while.
After all the ingredients have been cooked well, add the boiled and mashed horse gram to it.
Add some water and let the Horse Gram Sabji to cook very well for a little longer while.
Horse gram increases the body heat and so pregnant ladies should avoid consuming it. In the same way asthma patients who have breathing trouble should avoiding consuming horse gram. Other than that anyone can have this horse gram. For those who have cold, you can give horse gram either as soup, sabji or in any other traditional side dish like Rasam. It burns the cholesterol from blood vessels and thus will be helpful in curing blocks in blood vessels. As the horse gram is basically a more heat producing ingredient, do not consume it daily. Rather than that you can take it once in a week or two.
