Horse gram is usually meant to be a good diet controlling ingredient. Consuming horse gram will give you good stamina and will also help you in reducing your weight. It removes the bad cholesterol from your body when you have it in your regular diet.
Ingredients Required for preparing Horse Gram SoupHorse gram (Boiled) – 2 Cups (With Water)
Butter – 1 Table spoon
Pepper and fennel seed (Powdered) – 1 Tea spoon
Salt – As much as required
Ginger (Grated or Grinded) – 1 Tea spoon
Small Onion – 8 Pieces
Bay Leaf – 1 Piece
Coriander & Mint Leaves for garnishing
Vegetables
Cabbage – 2 Table spoons
Beans – 6 Pieces
Carrot – 1 Piece
Tomato – 1 (Finely chopped)
Preparariong Procedure for Horse Gram Soup
Fry the horse gram in a dry pan for about 5 minutes. Frying the pulses before using helps in getting affected from gas problem that all pulses usually causes.
After the horse gram is fried for some time, you have to put it to soak in water overnight.
In the morning, boil the 2 cups of horse gram in a cooker with required amount of water and salt. After the horse gram has boiled completely, drain and store the water from it.
Take Butter in a pan and heat it till it melts. For those who are keen about their calories consumed and are dieting, you can either use sunflower oil or olive oil.
Once the butter melts, put a bay leaf to it. Let the color of the bay leaf to change dark.
Then add grated or pasted ginger to it. If you wish you can also add few pieces of grated garlic to it. Usually pulses cause flatulence. To avoid that, we are adding ginger and garlic in this horse gram soup recipe.
Now add the chopped onion to it. The onion need not be deep fried. Once the onions get slightly cooked add the boiled vegetables to it. You can choose any vegetables of your choice. You can also leave to soup to be typically horse gram soup by avoiding other vegetables. It’s your wish.
Next add the mint and coriander leaves. Mint leaves added to the horse gram soup, helps us for proper digestion.
Now mash half cup of boiled horse gram into a fine paste with a mixy. Then add this horse gram paste and the horse gram water into the pan and mix it well. The horse gram is grinded and added to this soup so that you will get proper consistency. There is no necessity to add any other ingredients like corn flour or rice flour.
Finally add the pepper and fennel powder for taste and leave it to boil for few minutes.
After all the ingredients have cooked well, you can serve this horse gram soup at evening Tiffin time or in the morning with breakfast.
