Oil - 3 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 Tbsp
Split Black Gram Seeds - 1 Tbsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 Tbsp
Flax Seeds - 1 Tbsp
Grated coconut - 1 Cup
Chilly Powder - 1 Tea Spoon
Pepper Powder - 1 Tea Spoon
Curry Leaves - 2 or 3 Branches
Small Onion (Cut into small) - 1 Cup
Salt - As much as required
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tea Spoon
Asafoetida - Few Pinches
Sirukizhangu is a muddy vegetable and therefore you have to clean it thoroughly for at least 3 times.
After cleaning the Siru kizhangu well, put it in a pressure cooker, add little salt and cook it for just 1 whistle.
After the pressure goes down take it out from the water and remove the skin layer from it. Cut it into small cubes and keep it aside.
Now take a thick bottom frying pan and add 3 spoon oil to it. After the oil has got heated add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds crackles add split black gram to it.
Once the split black gram turns to golden brown, add chopped onion to it.
When the onion turns to translucent color add salt, turmeric powder and curry leaves to it.
Then add cubed Siru Kizhangu, chilly powder, pepper powder and asafoetida to this and mix it well for some time.
Finally add grated ingredients (coconut, cumin seeds, flax seed) from the mixer jar to the pan. Mix it thoroughly for the last time.
Now our Siru Kizhangu Varuval is ready to be served. Transfer it to a serving bowl and enjoy it hot.
