Procedure to make Fish Curry (Meen Kuzhambu) recipe
- First thoroughly wash the thinly sliced fish pieces in running water so that the fish smell will not be there in Fish (Meen) curry.
- Then take a tawa and add oil to it. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds in it and let it to crackle.
- When the mustard seeds crackle add the split black gram to it and let it to fry until it turns golden brown.
- Then add fenugreek seeds in it and fry slightly.
- Now add chopped onion in it and fry until it gets golden shade.
- Then add the chopped tomato to it sauté it well.
- Now put the chili powder, salt and curry powder and fry for some time.
- Next add the tamarind paste to this mixture and blend all the ingredients together.
- If required add some water to it. Now let this mixture to boil well and get a thick consistency.
- After the curry boils completely and gets the taste of salt, spice and sourness in right proportion, add the washed fish (Meen) pieces to it. Once the fish pieces are added lessen the flame.
- Avoid boiling the curry in high flame once the fish pieces are added. If done so, the fish will get over cooked and start breaking into irregular pieces.
- As the fish is not let to boil in curry for long time, it takes time to absorb the taste from the curry mixture. So Fish curry tastes good when served after long time rather than serving it soon after cooking.
