Almond Coated Potato – Starter/ Appetizer

Almond coated potato is a dish that is very rich in energy. You would have basically tasted dishes with almond only as sweet. This is a unique dish with almond that is made as a spicy Almond coated potato which can be tasted as a starter or an appetizer.

Ingredients required for preparing Almond Coated Potato – Starter/ Appetizer


Potato (Boiled and Cut to round shape) – 1 Big

Almond Flakes – 100 gram

Corn Flour – 2 Tea spoon


Maida – 2 Tea spoon

Milk – 1 Cup

Butter – 1 Tea spoon

Garlic (Grated) – 2 Pieces

Pepper Powder – 1 or 2 Tea spoons

Olive Oil – As much as required

Salt - As much as required


Preparation procedure for making Almond Coated Potato – Starter/ Appetizer

Usually Almonds are used only for sweets. But for a change we can use Almond to make a spicy starter like this.

First you have to cut the potatoes to round shape and boil them to 80 percent.

To the boiled potato you have to give a coating with Almond flakes. For this you have to prepare a white sauce. You have to cover the potato with a white sauce over it and then stick then Almond flakes over it. You can also use this white sauce for the pasta.

Let’s see how to prepare the white sauce at first.

Take a shallow non stick pan and add some butter to it. Let it to melt for a while. After the butter has melted fully, add maida (All Purpose Flour) to it. For this dish you will have to make this white sauce very thick. This is because we have to make a coating over the boiled potato like a paste.

Now add milk to it. And knead it thoroughly. Do not let the maida to stick or form balls. Keep stirring continuously so that it forms a smooth and uniform paste.

To this add grated garlic and required amount of salt and pepper. Again keep stirring for some time. Cook it till you get a thick paste like consistency.

Then you can shut off the flame and keep it aside.

Now let us see how to make a coating of this white sauce over the potato that is already cut into thick round sheets and 80 percent cooked.

First take corn flour and sprinkle it over the boiled potato. If the potato is wet the white sauce will not stick to it. For this we will have to dust the potato by sprinkling little corn flour over it.

Next take the cooled white sauce and spread it as a thick layer all over the boiled potato.
For making the Almond Flakes, we have to soak the Almonds overnight in water and now remove the outer skin from it. Then Cut it into the shape of flakes.

Finally take these almond flakes in a vessel and spread it evenly. In this plate put the potatoes coated with a white sauce and pat it all over. You should also turn the slices to the other side and pat again. See that the almond sticks everywhere in the potato layered with white sauce.

Now take a frying pan and add little olive oil to it. Then put the Almond coated potatoes to it and fry them both sides till it gets to golden color in low flame.

You can also fry it in butter. But for those who are diet conscious, it is better to use olive oil.


Finally the Energy rich Almond coated Potatoes is ready to be served as a starter or an appetizer.
