How to make Tomato Thokku

Ingredients required for preparing Tomato Thokku


Oil - 2 Tablespoons

Mustard  - 1 teaspoon

Dry Red Chilies – 2 Nos.

Ginger – 2 Inch Piece

Garlic – 1 Whole Clove

Onion - 3 Medium Sized


Red Chili Powder - 1/2 teaspoon

Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon

Tomatoes - 4 Medium sized

Salt – As much as required

Coriander leaves for garnishing


First prepare all the ingredients to make Tomato Thokku one by one


Split dry red cilies into small pieces.

Clean and grind ginger and garlic together.

Chop onions into long slices.

Cut tomatoes into big pieces.

Finely chop coriander leaves.


Cooking procedure for Tomato Thokku


Take a pan and heat it in medium flame. Add 2 table spoons of oil to it and let it to heat.

Once the oil heats up add the mustard seeds to it, and wait until it pops up. After that add dry red chilli with this and add the ginger and garlic paste that you have prepared previously.

Let it to fry for some time and now add sliced onions to this. Stir and fry until these ingredients turn to golden brown color.

Then finally add red chili powder, turmeric powder, sliced tomatoes and salt. Fry up the entire ingredients well. Now keep the dish in low flame for about 5 minutes and see that it does not get dried up and sticks to the bottom. Saute it continuously or occasionally.

After the dish is ready transfer it to serving bowl and garnish it with finely chopped coriander leaves.
