Dried Coconut/ Kopparai Thaengai – 1 Full Nut
Roasted Gram – ¼ Cup
Garlic – ½ Cup
Red Chili – 5 Pieces
Asafetida – 1 Tea Spoon
Salt to Taste
Coconut Powder/ Thaengai Podi/ Andhra Podi Preparation Proccedure
First you have to make the Dried Coconut/ Kopparai Thaengai into small pieces. It is advisable to use dried coconut for preparing this Coconut Powder/ Thaengai Podi/ Andhra Podi recipe so that it will last for more days. As we are using dried coconut it will be hard to grate in mixy if it is put as a whole. So we have to make use of a knife or any other thing to cut or break the dried coconut into small pieces.
After making the dried coconut into small pieces put them in a mixer jar and grate them to a coarsely grinded powder and keep it aside.
Now again take the mixer jar and add the roasted gram and red chilies to it and grind finely. Then to these ingredients add the garlic, asafetida and salt and grind further.
Then mix these grinded ingredients along with the grinded coconut and blend them evenly to set the Coconut Powder/ Thaengai Podi/ Andhra Podi.
You need not preserve this Coconut Powder/ Thaengai Podi/ Andhra Podi in refrigerator. You can just keep this Coconut Powder/ Thaengai Podi/ Andhra Podi in an open container or a container in which air flow is possible. If the air flow is there in a vessel containing coconut as its ingredient, it will last well for longer period. If you close it tightly, it will get spoiled sooner.
You can serve this Coconut Powder/ Thaengai Podi/ Andhra Podi with any main dishes like dosa, idly, chappathi, adai, aappam, kara paniyaaram and can even mix with rice and add oil with it.
