Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) Podi

Ingredients Required for Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) Podi

Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) – 1 Cup

Black Gram/ Whole Urad Dal – 1 Cup

Dried Curry Leaves – 1 Cup

Dry Red chilies – 6 Pieces

Salt to taste


Asafetida for flavor


Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) Podi preparation procedure


Take an empty pan and heat it well. After the pan heats add the whole black gram to it. Now fry it until it turns to golden brown. You need not add oil, ghee or butter to this pan of black gram. You can just fry it in a dry empty pan.

After the black gram is fried to golden brown you can transfer it in another plate and let it to cool. Now add the Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) to the pan and fry it for some time. Keep sautéing it for a while continuously. This seed pops up soon after it fries. So it is better to fry it by keeping in low flame and by closing the pan soon after it starts to pop.

Now take this Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) in a plate and then add the dried curry leaves and dry red chilies to the empty pan and fry it for some time.

Finally put the crystal salt and crystal asafetida in the pan and fry for a little while.
After all the ingredients cools for some time, you can put them all together in a mixer jar and grind it.

Do not grind it too finely, let it to be little granular so that it will taste very well.

You can use this Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) Podi with Idly, Dosa and even with hot cooked rice.



Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) is very good for health as it has omega 3 content in it. It is good to add this dish to your diet as it helps in reducing weight. Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) also prevents hair loss and enhances hair strength and growth. Having this Flax Seeds/ Lin Seeds (Aazhi Vidhai) in your diet also helps to increase your fasting blood sugar.
